Sabtu 15 Maret 2008 lalu, nyamperin Mega Bazaar di JCC, selain pameran komputer ada juga pameran Focus & JAVE (Jakarta Audio Video Expo)… Pameran kali ini bayar goceng alias 5.000 perak… Tapi tetep aja pengunjug tumpek blek..

Setelah muter2x selama kurang lebih 4-5 jam dan nangkepin brosur para penjaga – penjaga stand… (untung bukan nangkep yang jaga.. :P) , akhirnya jatuh hati kepada ASUS WL-520 GU.. walau sehari sebelumnya sempet periksa2x spek. barang yang satu ini juga sih…. tadinya agak goyah dengan penawaran stand tetangga LinkSys yg menyediakan perangkat sejenis dengan harga yg lebih murah… tapi tekad sudah bulat.. akhirnya 480rb.. barter dengan hardware ini…

ASUS WL520GU

Oke, lah.. kalo soal review hardware, tinggal tanya Om Google.. banyak tersedia ulasannya serta spesifikasinya….

Setelah nyampe rumah, langsung nyoba perangkat ini.. dengan maksud untuk segera masuk ke dunia internet melalui wireless.. weekekekeke.. (agak norak nih, soalnya dirumah lom ada perangkat wireless..) .. Wah ternyata GATOT alias gagal total… Penyedia internet Fastnet tidak bisa dikonek melalui wireless… akhirnya pasrah.. tidur lha.!!…

Selang 1 – 2 hari.. yang artinya hari ini… coba lagi untuk konek – konek .. sebagai informasi, kondisi modem Fastnet yang sekarang terhubung dengan 1 Ethernet pada sebuah PC router, kemudian di share dengan Linux, via Dlink Switch 16 port…. (untuk 4 user aja)…

WL-520GU ini menyediakan control panel yang bisa diakses melalui web browser…

Jadi tinggal masuk ke control panel dan lakukan setup…
Awalnya saya mencoba pilihan “WAN Connection Type:” pada “Automatic IP” dengan harapan Modem dapat langsung terdeteksi jika dikoneksi ke port WAN (yang terletak dibelakang didekat USB port.. ada tulisannya koq..)
Wah.. ternyata tidak sesuai harapan… IP yang didapat tidak dapat dipakai untuk browsing – browsing…

… singkat cerita…..

Dengan modal pengetahuan network yang masih minim.. akhirnya saya decide untuk mengganti “WAN Connection Type:” pada mode “Static IP”…

lalu lakukan pengisian “IP Address”, “Subnet Mask”, “Default Gateway”, “DNS Server” ,….dstnya…
Untuk mendapatkan nilai dari field2x tersebut.. bisa dilihat dari konfigurasi Fastnet…
kebetulan sy menggunakan Linux jadi untuk mendapatkan MAC Address, bisa pakai command ifconfig…
untuk medapatkan nilai 2x yang lain bisa liat di menggunakan cat dhcpclient-eth0.leases

Setelah selesai men-setting.. jangan lupa untuk men-save dan merestart Asus WL-520GU ini…
butuh waktu kurang lebih 20 detik.. untuk meload konfigurasinya….

Dan selesai.. akhirnya bisa online wireless..
kalo mengenai setting sekuriti daripada router ini , saya kurang paham mungkin ada yang bisa bantu ??

Eniwei, router ini digunakan untuk 1 wireless.. dan 3 wired … so far sih ok – ok aja…
